Maldives is currently experiencing its ‘Hulhangu’ monsoon season

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has issued ‘white alert’ level weather warnings for regions between northernmost Haa Alif atoll and the central Laamu atoll.

‘White alerts’ is the first alert level issued by the MET Office and means that high tidal waves are expected with some rain showers, although there is ‘no immediate threat’.

The while alert will stand until 03:30pm on Monday. The MET Office had issued a ‘yellow alert’ level warning for the same atolls on Sunday as well.

Maldives is currently experiencing its ‘Hulhangu’ monsoon season, characterized by hot winds blowing from the south west and rain showers.

Adverse weather conditions across the country has caused halts in commute as the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company said that ferry services between islands will see significant delay.

Further unprecedentedly, two aircrafts operated by the state-run Island Aviation had also crashed into each other as they were left docked at the Valanaa International Airport.
