South-Galolhu MP Ahmed Mahloof has urged members of the opposition coalition to respect each other and not to make comments that stray away from their shared interests.
Mahloof, who is under house arrest for the rest of his court trial, said this via Facebook.
He said that all the parties in the opposition coalition have differences of opinion and also want to bring out their own candidate in this year’s presidential election and that this will cause members to hear comments they do not like from other members.
Mahloof said that this was not a cause for concern and that the four opposition leaders remain together and should be trusted.
He also told senior party members to avoid behavior that strays away from their shared interests and runs counter to people’s expectations.
He said that President Abdulla Yameen would be happy to see the disagreements between opposition members but expressed his hope that the coalition will remain even after they win the election.
This comes after former Vice President and current leader of Maldives United Opposition Dr. Mohamed Jameel criticized former President Mohamed Nasheed, saying that no one has the right to say that he is the only who can solve problems.
