New application tokens weren't issued tonight at the continuation of the one-day driver's license program under the name 'Ehlakin Mashah License' conducted by Maldives Transport Authority.

The authority decided to only provide the service to the applicants who received the tokens on Friday night. Similar to Friday night, people were lined up in long queues in front of Huravee Building on Saturday night. Some individuals have raised concerns regarding this issue.

'This is a good program. But we aren't aware of what's going on or how the activity is planned. For instance, we only learned that tokens weren't issued tonight only when we came here. They said that the service is only being provided to the people who received their tokens on Friday night. If we were informed of that on Friday night, I would have secured a token even if it meant staying in the queue for three hours', an individual informed RaajjeMV regarding the issue.

Queues for the one-day drivers' license program

The program also includes car and pick-up licenses in addition to motorcycle license. Since the written tests for four-wheel drives were held in the area between Huravee Building and Hukuru Miskiy (Friday Mosque), the participants faced difficulties regarding limited space.

RaajjeMV understands that new tokens are to be issued only after providing the service to the people who have already received their tokens. 'Ehlakin Mashah License' program was kicked off on Friday evening and will also be held on Saturday and Monday.

Additionally, the application form requires participants to fill in their Instagram and Facebook usernames, as well as Viber and Whatsapp contact details. Therefore, many people have questioned whether the government is collecting the public's social media information for the upcoming presidential election.

While the application forms also lacked the government's stamp, RaajjeMV was not able to get a comment from Transport Ministry since its Chairman, Mahudhy Imad, did not pick up the phone.

Since 'Ehlakin' is the slogan used for President Abdulla Yameen's campaign this year, the public suspects 'Ehlakin Mashah License' program to be part of his campaign activities.

Furthermore, Transport Ministry plans on conducting it in Hulhumale' after concluding the program in the capital city, Male'. The ministry has also announced that they will be conducting the program in other islands with sizable populations.
