The Central African Republic has become the second country in the region with which the Maldivian government formally established diplomatic ties with this week.

The relevant documents were signed in an event held on Thursday, by UN permanent representatives Ali Naseer, from the Maldives, and Ambroisine Kpongo.

On Tuesday, Naseer signed a communiqué that said the Maldives has formally established relations with Equatorial Guinea.

Maldives also recently established diplomatic relations with Congo, Zambia, and the Ivory Coast.
