The Criminal Court had attempted to start the trial of Waleeda Waleed, president of Jumhoree Party (JP)’s women’s league, before the scheduled date.
According to the court order, Waleeda, a former actress, was scheduled for a court hearing on Wednesday. However, the court then scheduled a hearing on Sunday and then cancelled it after Waleeda failed to arrive at the hearing.
Waleeda told RaajjeMV that the court did not contact her for failing to arrive at the court on Sunday.
The Criminal Court has not disclosed the reason behind attempting to begin her trial on Sunday instead of the scheduled date on Wednesday.
Waleeda is being charged with obstructing a police officer at a protest calling for the implementation of the February 1 Supreme Court order to release political prisoners and reinstate MPs. She has been arrested at numerous protests and has been treated at hospital due to police brutality.
