Dhiggaru MP Faris Maumoon remains steadfast in the reform efforts no matter how many days he spend in jail or whether he is given an unfair conviction, says the opposition coalition.
The parties said this in a joint statement to commemorate 10 months of MP Faris’ imprisonment without a conviction.
In the statement, the parties said that there is no basis for accusing Faris of bribing a fellow MP, noting that the MP who allegedly accepted the bribe had testified in court to not having received any from Faris.
The parties said that MPs had signed Faris’ no-confidence motion against the parliament speaker on their own volition for the reform efforts.
The parties also accused investigators of forging evidence and testimonies and called for them to be brought to justice
Noting that keeping MP Faris and other politicians in jail will not stop the opposition’s reform work, the parties said that there are other who have spent five years in jail with no conviction.
The justice system has been taken over by a specific power in such a way that any judge that gives a fair ruling has to go to jail immediately after, including the judges of the top court.
The opposition parties ended the statement by calling on authorities to release MP Faris and other political prisoners.
