Former President Mohamed Nasheed is the most selfish politician this country has ever seen, says Fisheries Minister Dr Mohamed Shainee in a tweet on Sunday.
In the tweet, Minister Shainee said that the opposition leader has never allowed anyone else in his party to compete against him in his entire career.
Shainee said that even while knowing that Nasheed’s name cannot be in ballot according to the Constitution due to his prison conviction, he did not allow anyone else from his party, MDP, to contest in the party’s primary election.
Nasheed is the only one contesting the MDP primary election slated for May 30. Even though he is self-exiled, Nasheed speaks to his supporters at campaign rallies via Skype from Sri Lanka.
MDP has said that no other candidate stepped up to contest in the party primary election because Nasheed has the support of the whole party.
Nasheed has insisted that he can contest the presidential election and that winning the MDP primaries would mean that the government would be forced to accept his candidacy.
