Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) informed media that they do not have any goods queued for clearance and that price inflation should not be blamed on delays caused in goods clearance.
In a press conference by MPL regarding their current activities, Assisant Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and head of operations division Rabih Mohamed said that the corporation usually begins goods clearance for Ramadan prior to the month. Rabih also added that MPL's activities were carried out under a thorough plan so that local businessmen are not inconvenienced and therefore assured that prices should not increase due to delays caused in goods clearance.
Furthermore Rabih told the press that MPL cleared 36,000 packages from five boats carrying goods that harbored 10 days prior to Ramadan last year and that the corporation cleared around 76,000 packages from 15 different boats 10 days prior to this year's Ramadan.
MPL also said that three work shifts are distributed amongst office staff work to cover 24 hours a day to save customer's from any inconvenince.
