'Baazaaruge Enme Heyo Agu List' or cheapest prices in the market list by Economic Ministry did not receive much support from local entrepreneurs this year. Therefore the list was released with the names of just three companies.
STO, Sosun Mart and Red Wave applied to be listed under the 'Baazaaruge Enme Heyo Agu List' produced by the ministry for this year's Ramadan.
The annually published list generally comprises of private companies interested in listing down their businesses. However, the ministry did not receive enough applications when it was opened for interested participants.
Regardless, the list for this year includes prices of 80 items and it displays STO's prices to be the lowest in the market due to the lack of listed companies.
The purpose of releasing the list of cheapest prices in the market is to inform the public of the shops that sell the cheapest goods. The goods noted in the aformentioned list include fish products, bread, vegetables and fruits, and other products essential for the month of Ramadan. Even though well-established marts applied in the previous years, the ministry did not get much support from private companies this year.
Furthermore, Economic Ministry attempts to solve the issue of price inflation caused in the Maldives every Ramadan, by utilizing government affiliated company STO to maintain the prices at the same level without rapid increases.
Nevertheless prices of several goods, including bananas and watermelons have risen this Ramadan as well.
