Former President Mohamed Nasheed has sent Ramadan greetings to Maldivians.

He sent the greeting in a tweet on Wednesday.

The Islamic ministry has announced that Wednesday is the first day of Ramadan.

This was confirmed in a statement signed by Islamic minister Dr Ahmed Ziyad released after the moon observing ceremony.

In the statement, the ministry stated that, after looking into the constellations, it was predicted that the moon would have been seen in the Maldives and other Islamic countries.
