MDP opens opportunity to contest in presidential primary
Ballot boxes will be held in every island in the Maldives
Ballots can be cast from Sri Lanka, India, and Malaysia
The date to submit candidacies will be open from 15th May onwards, until the vote on 30th May

The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party has revealed that individuals interested in stepping forth to contest in its presidential primary ballots can do so from Tuesday onwards.

Hassan Latheef, the party’s chairperson, told RaajjeMV that the date to submit candidacies will be open from 15th May onwards, until the vote on 30th May.

The party has said that ballot boxes will be held in every island in the Maldives, as well as Colombo and Kandy in Sri Lanka, Trivandrum and Bangalore in India, and Malaysia’s capital city.

Latheef said that the party is easily the largest in the Maldives, and the member count kept by the Elections Commission is significantly low, which is done purposefully to lessen morale and to reduce amounts that have to be doled out as mandatory party allowances.
