Civil Court has thrown out jailed former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb’s case requesting he be sent abroad for medical treatment.

Adeeb filed the case to seek treatment abroad for his glaucoma as recommended by doctors after authorities failed to treat it.

At the first hearing on April 26, Adeeb said that he has the right to receive medical treatment and asked the presiding judge to make a decision before he goes completely blind.

The case was filed against the correctional service and the home ministry. At the hearing, a lawyer from the attorney general’s office said that Adeeb has not gone through the procedure needed for prisoners to be sent abroad for treatment. The lawyer also noted that the Maldives Medical Council has also not given him approval to go abroad.

Civil Court threw out the case on the points raised by the state.
