Maldivian table tennis players Rafa and Dheena wins medals in the South Asian Junior and Cadet Championship held in Male', Maldives.
Dheema, who is only 10 years old, won silver medal in the 'hopes' category in which players under the age of 12 perform. She won the semi final against a Sri Lankan player with a score of 3-0. India won the gold medal in this category.
14 year old Maldivian champion for the past two consecutive years, Rafa attained four bronze medals in the tournament. She won two bronze medals from the singles event of cadet and junior category, and managed to win bronze medals from the doubles event of cadet and junior cateogry with her partner Laisha as well.
The medals won by Maldivian national junior team has doubled in comparison to 2016, as Maldives only attained three medals back in 2016, while the team won six this year.
South Asian Junior and Cadet Championship is the most competitive tournament played in the region and it is being held in the Maldives for the first time this year. Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Maldives participated in the tournament.
