Malé City cleanup on Saturday gathers 70 tons of waste
Deputy Minister Ali Amir told RaajjeMV that all the waste had been collected from capital city Malé and its extensions
Ali Amir said that their initiative received tremendous support and that it was successful

The city-wide clean up in Malé on Saturday had resulted in a total of 70 tons being gathered and carried for disposal, the Ministry of Environment and Energy has said.

Deputy Minister Ali Amir told RaajjeMV that all the waste had been collected from capital city Malé and its extensions, Villimalé and Hulhumalé alone.

Ali Amir said that the while their initiative received tremendous support and that it was successful, there were ‘some that took advantage of it’. Amir is referring to a lack of support for ‘keeping Malé clean’ from some on the basis that it is already being done.

The ministry said that over 4,000 people had registered to participate in the initiative, including employees of government offices, members of civil society, and students.

The ‘Maa Saafu Malé’ clean up initiative was organized by the ministry with the state-operated Waste Management Corporation.
