Yameen will be out of power and EC will be independent before elections: Sameer
EC is organizing meetings with political parties.
Political parties do not approve of how Shareef was appointed to EC
Jumhooree Party does not have any information to share with a corrupt commission

Yameen will be out of power and EC will be independent before we face the Presidential Elections this year, according to Jumhooree Party's Secretary General Ahmed Sameer.

While speaking at the opposition rally near M.Kunoozu on Monday night, Sameer mentioned that EC lacks principles accepted by the joint opposition.

He also said that they don't have any information to share with a biased Commission, given that the opposition does not approve of how EC's current President Ahmed Shareef was appointed.

"What we have to say to EC is that they are not an independent commission. The changes to EC have been made by a partial parliament and the Maldivian military which has been taken over by a few officials. And we do not approve of the changes", said Sameer.

Sameer also announced that even though the candidate from joint opposition is close-by, they will only partake in the elections after getting Yameen out of power and making EC independent.

He added that the daily opposition rallies portray a clear picture of how the Maldivian public wants Yameen's regime to fall. Sameer explained further that the decision to let political prisoners meet their families only once a month was unjust and the purpose of it is to hide the inhumane treatment towards them in the jails.

"To continue brutality in jails, they are functioning outside of the law by making up their own rules and regulations. What the joint opposition is saying is that we will put an end to this. Insha Allah, we will not back away before we bring Yameen's regime down and put an end to this inhumanity", explained Sameer.

He also added that he does not doubt Yameen's imprisonment through a proper legal procedure in the future.

While Sameer was clear about not having any information to share with EC, they are still trying to organize meetings with individual political parties separately.
