South-Mahchangoalhi constituency MP Abdulla Sinan has been remanded for the rest of his trial, after the state raised charges of terrorism.

Noorul Salam, a member of his legal team, said that MP Sinan has been charged with accepting bribes from MP Faris Maumoon and attempting to overthrow the government.

However, he said that Sinan wasn’t even questioned over some of the charges during the investigation.

Sinan has also been charged with working with then-commissioner Ahmed Areef to change the duty schedule of officers.

The lawyer said that another charge was raised which implicated Sinan in the Supreme Court order on February 1 to release political prisoners and reinstate opposition MPs.

The court remanded Sinan for the rest of the trial over a police intelligence report, the lawyer added.

Sinan, who has been in detention since February 9, is one of the five lawmakers accused of terrorism.
