Mid-Henveiru MP Ali Azim was released on Wednesday after authorities declined to keep him in remand.

MP Azim was arrested at the mass anti-government demonstration on March 16.

After his release, Azim told RaajjeMV that he still remains determined to change the government leadership.

He said that the government has revoked numerous Constitutional rights and stolen from the citizens, and vowed to do whatever it takes to retrieve the stolen amount.

Speaking on prison conditions, Azim said that prisoners are being kept in pairs in small cells with inadequate sanitary conditions. He also said that security cameras have also been installed inside the cells.

Azim said that other opposition leaders in prison remain equally steadfast, and that they call on citizens to keep working for reform.

Azim was arrested on allegations of obstructing police officers and the state.

Others released on Wednesday include opposition MDP’s parliamentary group leader Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Adam Zalif (younger brother of MP Ilham), and Male’ City Councilor Ahmed Niyaz.
