Former President Mohamed Nasheed has condemned the recent arson attack on Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)’s campaign site.
Rumaalu-2’s stage and podium were lit on fire early Sunday morning.
In a tweet later that day, the opposition leader said peaceful political activities should be allowed.
His party MDP has also condemned the attack and called for a swift investigation. The party said that attacking one political office or property is an attack on the political system and noted that attacks on opposition party sites and especially MDP campaign sites in Male’ and atolls have become commonplace.
MDP also said that the police service has been obstructing their political activities, damaging their property beyond use, dismantling their campaign sites, and confiscating their flags.
