The Joint Opposition parties has said that the jailing of numerous people over terrorism accusations are unlawful.

In a press release, the Joint Opposition said that while the government has called out those arrested during the State of Emergency as terrorists, it will not impact the reform efforts.

The Joint Opposition said the suspension of the criminal procedure during the State of Emergency resulted in the judges not having to follow any rules, and therefore their decisions cannot be considered legal.

In the statement, the opposition accused the court of using the police service and prosecutor general’s office to ‘kidnap’ certain people and urged its employees to condemn such behavior.

The Joint Opposition also vowed that those accused of terrorism are innocent.
