Prosecutor General (PG)’s recent statement has proved that the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)’s accusations against opposition politicians were right, says the party’s deputy leader Abdul Raheem Abdulla.
At a ruling party conference, Abdul Raheem Abdulla said that, since the start of February, PPM members have been accusing specific people of trying to take over the country through bribery.
“These included people we admired, people who ruled previously, people who wanted to rule, and people who owe citizens billions of dollars.”
He said that the PG has listed people who owe billions of dollars to the state, and that citizens should talk about it publicly, including the MVR 2.9 billion withheld from opposition Jumhoree Party (JP) leader Qasim Ibrahim.
The PPM deputy leader also dismissed worries over the State of Emergency, saying that it had not affected people’s daily life and that this year’s February saw more tourist arrivals than the same month last year.
