Home Minister Azleen Ahmed has said that the government will be giving out a total of 300 flats to officers of the police, under its public shelter program.

Minister Azleen said this to senior officers of the police at a meeting on Thursday. The minister had commended them for their work and told them that the government prioritizes welfare for the police.

In 2013, the government had also given away 300 flats to the Maldives Police Service, constructed under its ‘Blues Housing Program’. Another 50 flats had also been constructed for police officers.

In the past two months, the local police have faced a number of allegations of police brutality for their violence against activists and journalists.
