The police service has confirmed that RaajjeTV journalist Mohamed Wisam, journalist Mohamed Fazeen, and Head of Programmes Amir Saleem were arrested on Friday regarding an ongoing investigation.

They were arrested on Friday night, as the Joint Opposition continued its protests in the capital city.

Fazeen was arrested while covering the protest for allegedly disobeying a police officer, while Wisam and Amir were taken into custody with a court order. Amir was arrested outside the RaajjeTV station.

While the police service did not disclose the case they are being investigated for, Amir has said he was told that his arrest was regarding two recent anti-government videos.

The videos uploaded to YouTube shows masked men in police uniforms threatening to join the protests and accusing the government of using the police service to commit illegal acts.

In a press conference on state TV during the protest, ruling party PPM’s parliamentary group leader, Ahmed Nihan accused RaajjeTV of staging the video, and PPM’s deputy leader Abdul Raheem Abdulla accused the arrested RaajjeTV employees of committing terrorist acts and again called on authorities to shut down the station.
