Ex-military officers Simad Ahmed, Ahmed Shaneez, and Ahmed Fattah have been released, after being arrested under Maldives’ ongoing state of emergency.

The three ex-officers, who all served in the military’s Special Protection Group, were arrested in capital city Malé on Wednesday night. Officialy, they were arrested under Maldives' ongoing state of emergency.

Former officers Shaneez and Simad had been arrested in late February as well, they were subsequently released and dismissed from service.

Although police have not revealed any details, RaajjeMV has recieved information that the recent arrest had to do with a video that surfaced on social media.

The video depicts three masked men, clad in uniforms worn by officers of the police’s special operations unit, claiming that a number of individuals have been threatened and framed by the government.

The video also has them saying that they will revolt against the government on April 1st, if it does not seize its ‘unlawful actions’.

The police’s spokesperson, Ahmed Shifan, said that they are investigating the matter, but cannot confirm if the men in the video are actual officers of the special operations unit.
