Former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb has called on government officials to switch sides and align themselves with him.
Moosa Siraj, Adeeb’s lawyer, conveyed these sentiments through a post on his Twitter account, where he quotes Adeeb as saying that he has no ill will towards anyone in government.
“Ahmed Adeeb has said everyone in government, with the exception of President [Abdulla] Yameen, is a friend to him. Adeeb has called on them to leave the government and desert the captain before they get crushed under the ship” Siraj’s tweet translates.

Adeeb, the youngest individual thus far to have served as vice president, was sentenced to a total of 33 years in prison for a reported assassination attempt against President Abdulla Yameen and for his role in the heavily publicized case of graft involving the state-operated Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation.
