The Fisheries Ministry has responded to reports that fishing crews that assist in transporting supporters of the allied opposition parties for a mass rally in the capital city, will be penalized.
The ministry is responding to reports that surfaced claiming that the potential demonstrators are to arrive in the capital city on fishing vessels.
The ministry’s statement on Tuesday warned that fishing vessels, operating under a license issued by the government, found responsible for this will be penalized.
“Such vessels will be penalized under article 16 of licensing procedures” the statement reads.
The article states that any vessels found to be responsible for an ‘act that constitutes a threat to national security or causes instability’ will have their license revoked.
Authorities had previously said that they would ‘not allow’ individuals in the outlying islands to demonstrate in the capital city.
The allied opposition parties have organized a mass rally for Friday, 16th February.
