Minister Muizzu said that the causeway would be operational by June this year.

The construction of a causeway connecting Madaveli and Hoadeddhoo islands in Gaafu Dhaal Atoll is nearly complete and will be functional by June, says Housing Minister Mohamed Muizzu.

Minister Muizzu said through a post on his Twitter account that those working on the causeway are currently devising revetments and current flow in the area.

Muizzu said that the causeway would be operational by June this year. Work on the project began in December of 2016.

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) was assigned the project for a total of MVR 29 million. The causeway stretches a total of 440 meters and 3.5 hectares of land was reclaimed for it.

The causeway begins at Madaveli island, which has a population 2,000 people, on its south eastern end to Hoadeddhoo, which has a population of 1,200.
