From the second term onwards, all schools will have Wi-Fi and begin educating students with the use of tablets, says President Abdulla Yameen.

President Yameen said this in his inaugural address at the first parliament sitting of the year, held at Dharubaaruge on Wednesday night.

He said that work has also begun to make the Maldivian school system more environment-friendly.

Noting that students enrolled in higher education have increased to 32 percent, President Yameen said the government’s aim this year is to increase it further to 60 percent, and increase the students who pass five subjects to 75 percent.

Earlier in January, Education Minister Dr Aishath Shiham has also said that they began work to digitalize all Maldivian schools with the introduction of tablets in early 2017.
