Parliament at 8 pm tonight will vote on the motion to extend the state of emergency to an additional 30 days.

While the parliament has not officially made the announcement, government and opposition MPs have disclosed this information to the press.

The Constitution states that 43 MPs are needed to pass the motion, but the government coalition has 41.

At a ruling party press conference, Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem Abdulla said that no matter the result of the vote, the outcome will be whatever President Abdulla Yameen wants it to be. Some have interpreted this to mean that even if the motion does not pass in parliament, it would still be accepted by another legal means. There have been reports that such a request has been filed to Supreme Court.
