Former President Mohamed Nasheed has met with India’s Minister of Defence Nirmala Sitharaman.
The opposition leader posted a photo of the two on Twitter.
On Sunday’s tweet, Nasheed said they discussed the situation in Maldives.
Nasheed earlier made a controversial public request for India to send a military-backed envoy to solve the political turmoil in the island nation.
India has said it is watching Maldives closely ever since the government declared a state of emergency and arrested two judges and numerous others, after refusing to obey a Supreme Court order to release nine political prisoners.
