MPL senior official resigns after criticizing President Yameen
Assistant General Manager Hussain Ahmed said he resigned to join the reform effort
He said President Yameen is escalating the turmoil in the country

A senior official of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has given his resignation after criticizing President Abdulla Yameen and his policies.

Assistant General Manager Hussain Ahmed said he resigned to join the reform effort.

In the resignation letter sent to the MPL’s executive, Ahmed said he had believed President Yameen was an honest leader, but that the President has failed to address the numerous allegations of corruption within the state, and has inhumanely imprisoned opposition leaders.

In the letter, Ahmed said that President Yameen’s refusal to obey the Supreme Court’s order to release political prisoners, and his declaration of a state of emergency, and the arrests of a large number of people everyday is escalating the situation.

He also expressed concern that President Yameen is deliberately taking away the rights of the people.
