The streets of Rathafandhoo island in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll has been severely flooded due to the ongoing heavy rain in the southern atolls.

The Maldives National Defence Force’s southern area command has been active on the island since Friday.

The flooding, caused from rain fall since earlier on Friday, has spread inside homes and damaged household electronics and such items.

Two homes were flooded heavily in particular, which rescue officers helped clear out on Saturday afternoon.

Officers are also working on deflooding the streets of the island.

Heavy rains often cause severe flooding in the out lying atolls, while streets on the capital city are also greatly affected by rain, and continuous fall floods them nearly beyond use, to the extent that vehicles have been damaged for riding through.
