RaajjeTV shares concern with broadcast regulator over threats
MBC was questioned on whether it has given the military power to shut down RaajjeTV
MBC members failed to give a direct answer

RaajjeTV has shared its concern with the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (MBC) over the numerous threats to the station and its staff.

At a meeting on Thursday, RaajjeTV employees questioned members of the broadcast regulator on whether it has given the military power to shut down the opposition-aligned TV station.

At the meeting, the MBC members, including vice president Mohamed Aslam, failed to give a direct answer to whether the military now has the power to shut down RaajjeTV, the most viewed TV channel in Maldives. Aslam said he had been in a meeting to discuss the idea, but had walked out because he did not believe the commission’s power to shut down a TV station should be given to the military.

Those who attended the meeting on behalf of RaajjeTV are COO Hussain Fiyaz Moosa, news director Husham Mohamed, and lawyer Mohamed Nishan Ibrahim.

Members of MBC who attended the meeting are its vice president, secretary general, and lawyer.
