Two members of opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s National Congress were arrested on Thursday evening.
Congress’ Maduvvari Constituency President Moosa Ali Manik and Thimarafushi Constituency President Anwar Ibrahim were arrested near MDP haruge area. The two were not part of Thursday evening’s rally.
MDP Secretary General Anas Abdul Sattar reported that the two were arrested on suspicion they were part of Friday’s massive rally. However, Anas reiterated that Friday’s rally was a warm up one.

Joint Opposition’s Spokesperson Galolhu South Constituency MP Ahmed Mahloof had also confirmed this.
Maldives Police Service (MPS) on Thursday held a press conference, stating they had intelligence information that a massive rally was planned for Friday. Stating that they do not believe the rally will be a peaceful one, MPS spokesperson Ahmed Shifan said the planned rally was an attempt to create chaos in the country.
