Lawmakers Ahmed Mahloof and Mohamed 'Muhammaa' Abdulla have been arrested.
They were arrested at the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party's nightly rallying grounds in Heinveiru of capital city Malé.
The police had use brutal force to disband the gathering and had indiscriminately used pepper-spray, on civilians, pedestrians, and journalists.
The arrests comes less than a day after the United Nations and the international community asked that arrests and detension in the country, with the state of emergency in place, not curtail the rights of detainees.
