Maldives Immigration has said it will take action against expatriates that join political rallies, particularly the one on said to be held by the opposition on February 16.
In a press release, Immigration said it has been receiving reports that expatriates have been encouraged to participate in the upcoming opposition rally.
Immigration warned that participation in any kind of political activity would violate the conditions in which the visa is issued for expatriate workers.
“Hence, we urge all expatriates working in the Maldives to refrain from engaging in activities outside the permitted areas of work approved under the conditions in which visa have been issued. We also urge employers to advise their expatriate workers to respect the Immigration laws and regulations.”
It also warned that employers will also be held accountable for compelling expatriates to participate in political rallies.
