Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed is being kept in a small jail cell in deplorable conditions, says his legal team.
The Chief Justice was arrested on Monday night during the state of emergency, on the allegation of accepting bribes.
Lawyer Hisaan Hussain said in a tweet that he is being held in a “small, hot, foul smelling cell with no fan at Dhoonidhoo Detention Centre.”
“No human being must be subjected to such degrading and inhumane treatment.”

Chief Justice Saeed’s lawyers have said that, during his arrest at the Supreme Court, officers pushed him down onto the floor and dragged him away.
Justice Ali Hameed was also arrested. They are both being accused of accepting bribes, influencing court trials, attempting to use their positions to remove the current government, and obstruction of justice.
