Ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has publicly called on the government to arrest former President Mohamed Nasheed using Interpol.
At a press conference, PPM Vice President Abdul Raheem Abdulla called for Nasheed’s arrest for saying that there were ISIS supporters in the military.
Abdulla said MP Abdulla Saeed should also be arrested for asking for foreign armed intervention to solve the political crisis in Maldives.
He said that anyone who makes such statements should be jailed.
On Nasheed’s reported visit to India, Abdulla claimed he was visiting a Hindu event. However, Nasheed will be attending a literature festival held by Indian news outlet The Hindu.
The government earlier condemned Nasheed for claiming that a large number of Maldivians were fighting in Syria, but later admitted that locals have been leaving to fight foreign wars.
