Situation does not demand military intervention: opposition parties
Called on to free chief justice
Cannot run Supreme Court without the chief justice

The joint opposition parties have stated that the situation in the Maldives has escalated to a level where military intervention is necessary.

In a press conference held on Thursday evening in Maafannu Kunooz, Kendhoo Constituency MP Ali Hussain said that the parties have not called for a military intervention in the country.

He clarified that former President Mohamed Nasheed’s tweet had called for envoys to be sent to Maldives, which is not the same thing as a military intervention.

He added that President Abdulla Yameen has forcefully supressed all legal measures that allow the government to be held accountable.

Referring to the arrest of Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed, MP Ali Hussain said that the Supreme Court bench is composed of all of its justices. He noted that the apex court could not pass any decisions without the chief justice on the bench.

He describing Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed's arrest as unconstitutional, MP Hussain called on security forces to free the justice.

Ahmed
Qasim is not fit to be a politician. Period. He is the reason why we are in all this mess today. He is still under the impression and belief that he will get to rule this country. If that day comes, wait and see how soon he resigns citing he cannot rule because of pressure from the cabinet, the parliament, the judiciary and most importantly his Villa Group senior staff. Lol.
