Maldives Police Service (MPS) say they have handed over two foreign journalists to the Department of Immigration and Emigration.
The two journalists are from India and the United Kingdom and were detained on Friday. No additional details were revealed.
MPS also said the two were detained for having violated the Immigration laws in the Maldives.
RaajjeMV understands the two are affiliated with AFP. One of the individuals is Money Sharma, a photojournalist.
Shocking. Indian journalist from @AFP and a dear friend Money Sharma has been detained by Maldives Forces while reporting on State of Emergency. Sources say he may now be deported. @presidencymv better ensure his safety. Attack on freedom of expression and press is very tragic. pic.twitter.com/fXzbndsvEW
