Maldives Broadcasting Commission (MBC) has, as usual, warned media of consequences of reporting that ‘devalues security forces’ and ‘create discord’ in the society.

A statement released by the Commission on Wednesday stated that the Commission had noted there was an uptake of media outlets reporting in a manner that ‘devalued security forces’ and ‘create discord’ in the society, following a ruling issued by the Supreme Court on February 1, 2018.

It also noted that there were several media stations that had reported content that encouraged foreign soldiers to come to the Maldives and face off with the local armed forces.

Clause 14 of the Broadcast regulations say that the MBC has the right to hold the license granted to a media station if the content is found to have breached or endangered national security.
