Indian news organization The Indian Express has begun a Twitter poll on whether India should intervene in Maldives.
While the Maldives government has declared a state of emergency, some local and Indian politicians have speculated on an intervention from the neighboring nation.

The state of emergency was declared during a time of political turmoil, after the Maldives government refused to abide by a Supreme Court ruling last week to release nine political prisoners.
Two justices of the Supreme Court have been arrested, as well as former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.
Former President Mohamed Nasheed has requested India to send an envoy, backed by its military, to release the justices and political prisoners.

The self-exiled opposition leader is one of the individuals who the apex court declared to have had an unfair trial.
