The Government of India has issued a travel advisory for Indian nationals traveling to the Maldives, advising to defer all non-essential travel to Male’ and other Atolls.
The advisory came within an hour after the Government of Maldives announced a state of emergency for a period of 15 days.
‘The prevailing political development in Maldives and the resultant law and order situation is a matter of concern for the Government of India. Indian nationals are, therefore, advised to defer all non-essential travels to Male’ and other atolls until further notices. Indian expatriates in Maldives are also alerted to the need for heightened security awareness, and urged to exercise due to caution in public and avoid public gatherings,’ read the advisory.
