Any individual obstructing this, will be sued

A team of lawyers have submitted a letter to the Prosecutor General’s Office for the immediate release of Dhiggaru Constituency MP Ahmed Faris Maumoon.

Speaking in front of PG Office on Monday, lawyer Hussain Shameem said that the letter had called on the PG to read and implement the Supreme Court ruling. He added that they had requested for two things in the letter; one, to release MP Faris immediately and two, to prosecute any and all who obstruct implementing the ruling.

‘We had requested a meeting with the Prosecutor General, but we were told that we need to fill out a form to meet her. This needs to be looked into. We’re still trying to meet Prosecutor General, get a response to the letter we sent,’ Shameem said.

Shameem added that terror charges can be raised on those who continue to detain MP Faris, pointing out that a precedent was set.

‘President Yameen was detained in Aarah, terror charges were raised on several over this. Those trials are still on going. If they are detaining MP Faris without any legal basis, then terror charges can be raised on them,’ he added.

Shameem called on authorities to release MP Faris immediately, as per Supreme Court ruling.
