The police have begun an investigation involving former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.
While the police have not revealed what the matter is, Maumoon has reportedly been summoned for Tuesday morning.
This comes amidst calls from the ruling faction of the Progressive Party of Maldives to have Maumoon investigated for the allegations of bribery in which former council member Zaidhul Ameen had been implicated.
The police revealed on their Twitter account that Maumoon had been approached, but he had told officers that he could not meet with them at the time.
The post on Twitter also revealed that Maumoon had asked for information on the officers.
On Sunday night, Maumoon himself posted on Twitter that he had been the subject of intimidation from a ‘band of thugs’.
A band of thugs armed with knives drove by my residence several times after midnight last night shouting abuse at the top of their voice. I wonder who would have sent these unruly thugs? @PoliceMv and @MNDF_Official must investigate and take action

Maumoon has called on the police to investigate this matter as well.
