Supreme Court seeks India’s help over President’s threats
A ‘top source’ said Supreme Court needed India to take tough measures to ensure that rule of law is implemented in the Maldives

‘Highly placed sources’ has said that the Supreme Court has sought help from India and other democratic nations over threats from President Abdulla Yameen to stifle the apex court, reported The Times of India.
The Indian news outlet on Monday cited a ‘top source’ saying that the court needed India to take tough measures to ensure that rule of law is implemented in the Maldives.
It said that the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, was closely involved with the ruling which ordered the release of all political prisoners.
“The Indian mission in Male’, according to sources in New Delhi, was in touch with ‘all relevant agencies’ involved in the crisis.”
In a recent press conference, Attorney General Mohamed Anil accused the Supreme Court of attempting to impeach President Yameen, and said that such a move would be resisted by the government.
The Times of India also noted that President Yameen has not moved to free the political prisoners, and that the military and police chiefs has announced that they would take orders from the Attorney General.
