Deputy Commissioner of Police Ahmed Saudee has been dismissed.

President Abdulla Yameen dismissed Saudee under section (b) of the Maldives Police Act.

He was relieved right after being given control of the police service, following the dismissal of Police Commissioner Ahmed Areef on Thursday night.

Commissioner Areef was reportedly dismissed after failing to pick up calls from the President. However, Areef has said he was sacked for obeying Thursday’s Supreme Court order to release all political prisoners.

The police service is now under the command of Deputy Commissioner Abdulla Nawaz.
