Ex-President Nasheed says military chief culpable for delay in enforcing SC verdict
Ex-President Nasheed said this on a post on his Twitter account
The Supreme Court had on Thursday ruled to release a number of politicians serving prison sentences, Nasheed among them
The government has delayed enforcing the ruling on the grounds that they are yet to determine its ‘validity’

Former President Mohamed Nasheed has urged authorities to have Thursday night’s Supreme Court ruling enforced, directly naming military chief Major General Ahmed Shiyam.

Nasheed said in a post on his Twitter account on Saturday that the ‘entire world’ is calling for the ruling to be enforced.

“If it is not [enforced], those culpable will likely be culpable under international standards” the tweet reads.

The Supreme Court had on Thursday ruled to release a number of politicians serving prison sentences, Nasheed among them.

However, the government has delayed enforcing the ruling on the grounds that they are yet to determine its ‘validity’.

The apex court’s decision has been supported in a chorus of commendation by the international community; with nations such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, India, Sri Lanka, and collectively, the United Nations.
