Former President Mohamed Nasheed says that he will seek to push ahead with the impeachment motion on Speaker Abdullah Maseeh and seek a fair election.
He made the statement speaking to international media from Sri Lanka.
In his interview the former President noted the Supreme Court ruling reinstating the dismissed MPs to their seats and mandating the release of nine political arrestees, including himself.
Given the ruling, he said the opposition will seek to push ahead with the no confidence motion on Speaker Maseeh.
The motion of no confidence was filed in Parliament on July 3, 2017 with the signatories of 45 MPs. The motion was kicked out of the Parliament, after nullifying the Parliament seats of 12 MPs.
President Nasheed said the sessions of the Parliament must start, elect a new Speaker and secure fair and free elections. He added that it was a must on President Abdullah Yameen to obey the Supreme Court ruling, as well as freeing political arrestees.
He added that the authorities had to provide security to Justices of Supreme Court.
Nasheed further stressed that changes must be brought to Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) and Maldives Police Service (MPS), in order to secure rights to citizens granted under the Constitution.
Nasheed gave an interview to RaajjeTV on Thursday evening, following the verdict and indicated that he will return back to the Maldives soon.
