Police to implement court order after consulting PG, AG
Police service first responded by saying that it will fully implement the court order
The government has since dismissed police commissioner Ahmed Areef
It has been 24 hours since the Supreme Court order was issued

Police service has said it will implement the procedural steps to abide by the Supreme Court order to release all political prisoners, after consulting with the Attorney General and Prosecutor General’s office.

Police service first responded by saying that it will fully implement the court order, but afterwards the government dismissed police commissioner Ahmed Areef, and replaced him with his deputy.

While the government has said it will implement the order, it has been 24 hours since it was issued.

Supreme Court on Thursday ordered the release of nine political prisoners, and also nullified the Election Commission (EC)’s decision to unseat 12 MPs from parliament.
