Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has once again called on authorities to obey the Supreme Court order to release jailed political leaders.

In a tweet on Friday, the opposition leader said he “once again” urge the military, police, and all independent institutions to implement the ruling.

He said that the ruling should be implemented “in order to uphold the rule of law and protect the peace and stability of the nation.”

Supreme Court on Thursday ordered the release of nine politicians, including Gayoom’s son, MP Faris Maumoon.

In previous tweets, Gayoom welcomed the ruling and congratulated the politicians who were ordered to be released, while also advising restraint for the opposition to preserve stability and harmony.
